Our mission, vision & values:
MISSION: Our mission at Heart in Hand is to connect people across borders. Currently, we do this by empowering marginalized artisans, by providing meaningful, international volunteer opportunities, and by facilitating the movement of much needed medical supplies across the globe.
To this end, we carefully connect people and organizations around the world who are doing conscious, compassionate work, such that both givers and receivers are empowered by their relationship to each other. This means we work with and amplify the efforts of partners and other organizations whenever possible – collaboration is at the heart of what we do.
Our mission requires that we consistently seek out new ways to expand our network, and we do so proactively, guided by core values such as sustainability and transparency. We also invite artisans and other potential partners to get in touch with their ideas for collaboration.

What is "Heart in Hand"?
We believe “heart in hand” is a way of moving through the world – taking conscious action from the level of the heart. It’s about allowing yourself to be heart-led, heart-first, heart-forward, and understanding that when you do so, every choice has significant and positive impact.
We know that change is necessary in order to address the significant social, health and climate issues that blanket the human family. But there are no solutions that will ever take root – no matter how complex or well funded – without the heart of humanity first. Change is required at the level of the individual, first. It is necessary for every person to engage in the world around them in a way that uplifts, empowers, connects and crosses borders.
Simply put, conscious compassion is the required foundation for all good work to alleviate poverty, injustice and environmental harm. Somewhere inside ourselves, we know this... It’s in the gravity we feel toward kindness, toward simple gestures of love.

What we do:
We strive to bring support, empowerment and opportunity to marginalized artisans and communities in developing countries.
We strive to make “humanitarianism” relevant, accessible and actionable by all people in their everyday actions and choices.
We establish direct, long-term relationships with artisans, producer groups and non-profit organizations. We also work indirectly when necessary, if we can ensure the producer group is fair trade, sustainable, equitable and ethical.
We market quality, handmade products to support the employment of socially and financially disadvantaged artisans. In doing so, we connect artisans in developing countries to customers in an international marketplace.
We market products that reflect and reinforce rich cultural traditions. In doing so, we encourage our customers to learn about artisans’ cultural heritage, traditions and social conditions.
We support and amplify the missions of partners and like-minded non-profits that support healthy international volunteerism and the empowerment and education of women and girls in developing countries.
We reinvest net revenue in projects that support other non-profit organizations with similar values and objectives.
We learn and grow. We keep our eyes open for new ways to accomplish our mission to “connect people across borders”.
